Zwar wurde der E-Rider von Conway bereits vor 2 Jahren auf der Eurobike präsentiert, dennoch begeistert uns dieses E-Bike und seine Power noch heute. Unser Fundstück der Woche: Das Pedelec E-Rider von Conway.

Das E-Bike “E-Rider” von Conway ist nicht nur auf den ersten Blick ein echter Hingucker, sondern offenbart auch auf den zweiten all seine durchdachten Komponenten und technischen Details. Dabei ist das Pedelec vor allem für den harten Einsatz in schwierigem Gelände konzipiert. Ein langlebiger Akku, Stabilität im Rahmen sowie eine extreme Federung helfen dabei und geben die nötige Sicherheit. Denn egal ob Mountainbike oder E-Mountainbike - Conway bleibt sich treu und verbaut hochwertige Teile zu hochwertigen Fahrrädern.

Das E-Bike wurde durch Conway mit 2000 Watt Maximalleistung und einem 36V Lithium-Ionen-Akku ausgestattet. Bei sparsamer Fahrweise lassen sich damit auf drei Fahrstufen ca. 110km zurücklegen. Wichtig für die Abfahrt und die Akkulaufzeit ist zudem, dass Conway es geschafft hat das Gesamtgewicht des Pedelecs auf etwas unter 20kg zu drücken, wodurch Spitzengeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 50km/h möglich sind. 160mm Vorder- und Hinterradfederung bieten dem E-Biker optimale Federung und ein angenehmes Fahrgefühl. Der dadurch kombinierte Fahrspass in der Abfahrt und auf der Strasse ist für ein E-Bike relativ selten und garantiert dem Käufer ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis im Vergleich zu anderen E-Bikes.

Das Pedelec wurde 2010 das erste mal auf der Eurobike vorgestellt und ging zu Beginn des Jahre 2012 an den deutschen Markt. Mit seinen ca. 5500 Euro spiegelt sich in den Kosten vor allem wieder, dass eine Vielzahl der verbauten Teile der Eigenproduktion von Conway entsprungen sind und jedes E-Bike somit ein echtes Qualitätsprodukt ist.

THE BICYCLE

Power-assisted bikes have dotted the global marketplace in wildly varying forms since the early 20th Century, and have consistently blurred the boundary between bicycle and motorcycle.

Recent trends towards retro-innovation – like pairing classic pedal-bike designs with modern gas powered motors – have made pedal-powered transportation more than just a feasible option. By using a nostalgic platform (a traditional pedal bike) to meet a new need (a transportation alternative that is efficient, affordable, and environmentally responsible), power-assisted bikes connect the customer with the past in a decidedly modern way.

THE CUSTOMER

The Cruiser customer has a truly discernible style. Image means a lot, style is important. The Cruiser customer probably has a car for transportation, but often longs for a more exciting way of getting around town. Better gas mileage, a reduced carbon footprint, and something a little “out of the ordinary” are strong reasons for obtaining a second vehicle, but current fuel efficient options seem to lack the right combination of style, form or function to excite them to purchase.

While pedaling a bicycle may provide the most eco-friendly alternative, the Cruiser customer doesn’t want to arrive at work exhausted and in a pool of sweat. Motorcycles offer improved fuel efficiency versus standard cars and SUVs, but the Cruiser customer doesn’t necessarily want to add another vehicle to their insurance policy. Current mopeds and scooters are not appealing at all to the Cruiser customer. While they may offer a form of classic styling, they lack the attitude and vintage appeal the Cruiser customer is looking for.

Mit einem sehr kraftvollen, verschleißfreien 800 W Motor und einer neu entwickelten Federachse kann das Board unter optimalen Bedingungen eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 35km/h erreichen. Dank der neu entwickelten, starken 12 AH Batterie beträgt die maximale Reichweite  ca. 26 km und die Beschleunigung auf 35 km/h unter 5 Sekunden. (Abhängig vom Fahrergewicht)

Durch das ABS-Bremssystem, beträgt der Bremsweg, aus voller Fahrt, unter zehn Meter.

Mit der speziellen, neu entwickelten Bluetooth-Funkfernbedienung haben sie alles unter Kontrolle. Durch die Bluetooth Technik ist Ihr Controller nur mit einem Board verbunden, das heißt, es kann bei Fahrten in der Gruppe nicht mehr vorkommen, dass Sie andere Boards steuern, dies war der Fall bei den alten Herzfrequenz Controllern. Des Weiteren können Sie die Geschwindigkeit Ihres Boards direkt am Controller per Knopfdruck verstellen, Sie müssen nicht wie bei der Konkurrenz das Batteriefach abbauen. Auch sehen Sie den Akkuladezustand Ihres Boards und die aktuelle Geschwindigkeit.

Die Akkuladezeit beträgt ca. 4 Stunden.

At first when I saw the Hanebrink I thought it was built for just snow and sand riding. The more I learned about the e-bike, and now that I have gotten a chance to ride one, I realize it is much more versatile then I originally thought, and would in fact  make a wonderful guerrilla commuter. If Mad Max rode an E-bike it would be a hot-rodded Hanebrink at 96 volts…if I were to choose  an electric bike I would run from the Police on, it would be the Hanebrink on 96 volts.  It turns out on further questioning, company owner will build a customer an off road only 96 volt bike (or just a 48 volt bike) upon request (for a price).

The Hanebrink has the following unique and custom components, detailed below in pictures:

The mid mounted hub motor works incredibly well. The system is silent and smooth.  The double freewheel works as it should.  The bike rides like a regular bike when not applying electric power.

The Hanebrink bike is for the most part made in the USA and assembled at its Southern California factory.  The Hanebrink made our list of the 10 most expensive electric bikes . Why so expensive? The Hanebrink has custom made frame and components that are fabricated in the US, not made in huge quantities. The Lithium-Cobalt battery pack is also provided by a USA pack manufacturer with a 2 year warranty.  The Hanebrink bike uses All Cell as its pack producer, which is the same people who make the Optibike pack. Expect a long lasting problem free battery pack in this package. I would highly recommend converting to 48 volts and getting the power and extra range associated. Although this option is not listed on the website, if you talk to the people at Hanebrink they can accommodate such requests.  I rode a 48 version of this ebike and it was nothing short of fantastic.

Hanebrink and Sand Riding:

I own several sand bikes and have had much experience riding electric bikes in the sand. With the Surly Pugsley, I have to ride across soft sand just to get to the hard-packed wet stuff. The Hanebrink is the only bike I have ever ridden which has the capacity to ride easily on the soft sand on the beach. That is because it has 8-inch wide tires, it virtually floats on top of the sand. It is necessary to reduce the tire pressure for ultimate traction when riding on soft sand. This is a drawback, because those big fat tires on the Hanebrink would be a bitch to pump back up, if you had to do so by hand when you were going from sand to road.
